Marion & Paul Fishman

    December,2025

Santa Rosa, CA

It’s been nine years since we discovered Oakmont Village. Longest we have lived anywhere since Brookline (19 years). No plans to move again. Our last home, Sea Ranch, was beautiful but too remote.

One of the advantages of living in Oakmont Village (pop. About 4,500) is that you don’t feel old: there is always someone older nearby. Paul celebrated his 89th in November so he is a little sensitive about this.

On one of our nearby trips we rented an Airstream near Half-Moon Bay. Remote but romantic. As the real estate folks say, “Has a 100% view”. Unfortunately, the nearby beach was not easily accessible from the Airstream.

When Dan visits he likes to cook-moves fast too; sometime just a blur.

We agreed with Dan about turkey for Thanksgiving being overexposed. He made excellent Petrole sole instead.

Dan lives in San Diego harbor aboard his J30 sailboat and works at West Marine. Still surfing but does not have a lot of time for actually sailing. He visits when his work schedule allows.

No turkeys harmed in the preparation of this holiday.

More Dan meals below: oysters and homebuilt pizza.

Not a low budget VRBO rental. A driftwood shelter at Point Reyes National Seashore. We sometimes rent a cottage nearby in the town of Inverness.

Inverness: peaceful, beautiful and 200 yards from the San Andreas Fault.

We have an abundance of nearby hikes. This is Sugarloaf Regional Park, about 10 minutes from home. The green hillsides turn golden in the summer and occaisionaly burn!

Paul and our neighbor Don Cimpher,  sometimes practice on the patio. So far the neighbors have not complained.

The local uke group (The Oakmont Ukesters) performs regulary at community gatherings. Paul wants to be a ukulele blues musician when he grows up.

If any of you play the uke you can use the Ukester Songbook: Click here:

And Marion works at keeping our garden/forest happy. The redwoods are flourishing, the birds and squirrels are well fed and the plants  amply watered though at this time of year it is hard to tell nature from nurture.

Hope you find some peace, satisfaction, and hope in these interesting times. Marion & Paul
